Our program has diverse research interests building on a solid clinical and teaching base of eight consultants, an advanced trainee registrar, a clinical/research fellow, a research clinical trials nurse, and research fellows/students.
The main research: Prospective cohort of 1000 patients with OA of the hip and knee (K Lim, C Page, P Choong, A Leung, C Dabare) Large database on rheumatic diseases in public and private clinics (about 4000), which is a very valuable resource. (Matthew Jiang)
Twin study on the role of knee effusions in RA and OA; 1) Quantifying effusions and 2) Qualifying effusions.

  • Qualifying knee effusions: The role of inflammatory markers including GMCSF in RA and OA synovial fluids
  • Large database since 2004 of a longitudinal cohort of patients with osteoarthritis of the hips and knees
  • Combined database of rheumatology patients at public and private clinics in the western suburbs of Melbourne which gives us a unique opportunity to perform population specific studies and comparisons between different sub groups
