Adults aged 50 years and older may be eligible for a study investigating the effects of body weight and muscle quality on falls and disability risk, bone health, and cardiovascular disease.
Participants in this study will attend one 2-3hr appointment at Sunshine Hospital. Participants will complete a blood test, measurements of muscle function and physical performance, and two clinical scans (DXA and pQCT) that assess body composition, muscle and bone quality.
Following the study, participants and their nominated GP will be mailed a summary of their results for the above tests.
The study has been approved by the Melbourne Health Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC 2013.294).
